Carolina Farm Stewardship Association

Carolina Farm Stewardship Association’s mission is to promote local and organic agriculture in the Carolinas by inspiring, educating and organizing farmers and consumers.

CFSA envisions a regional food system that is good for the farmer, the consumer, and the environment. Our events include Farm & Garden Tours, On-Farm Dinners and our annual Sustainable Agriculture Conference.

Food Security Learning Center

There is a quiet revolution happening in the U.S. and it is connected to local food. Whether in family meals or in restaurants, Americans are enjoying the delicious taste of local dairy, vegetables, and fruits. Farmers’ markets are springing up in villages, towns, and cities across the country. Parents and teachers are supporting more local food in school cafeterias. An increasing number of supermarkets and groceries are including local produce. Community gardens and urban farms are growing food in cities, and soup kitchens and food banks are using produce from local farmers to meet the emergency food needs of hungry Americans. Low-income communities are creating new models of food production and distribution, with healthy and nutritious food available for all. As these initiatives grow, they are developing into local and regional food systems.

Local Food: Where to Find It, How to Buy It

The title says it all. This 30-page booklet (available as a PDF) was developed for consumers who are interested in supporting rural communities by buying locally grown food, but don’t know how to begin. Developed by MISA in cooperation with our many partner organizations and beautifully designed by the Renewing the Countryside folks, this book steps you through everything from finding a nearby farmers’ market, ordering through a network of nearby farmers, to freezing summer produce for winter eating.

Community Food Security Coalition

The Community Food Security Coalition (CFSC) is a North American organization of social and economic justice, environmental, nutrition, sustainable agriculture, community development, labor, anti-poverty, anti-hunger, and other groups.
